چکیده

A severe right hind limb paralysis due to injury to the peroneal (fibular) nerve was characterized by knuckling of the paw, over extension of the hock, dragging of the limb and excoriations on the dorsum of the digits. Management of the case therapeutically and conservatively over a period of three weeks was not rewarding. The case was eventually and successfully managed by the relocation of the superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT) to the long digital extensor tendon (LDET). The surgical procedure was relatively easy. However, the post-operative management and retraining of the puppy to enable it use the flexor tendon as an extensor was difficult and protracted but was successful. The puppy regained normal limb placement and near normal gait about two months postoperatively. It was eventually discharged after three and half months of management.

New method for fixation point of tibialis posterior tendon transfer

Background: The transfer of the tibialis posterior tendon to the dorsum of foot can restore the function of the paralyzed dorsiflexor muscles of the foot and ankle. In order to reduce the wound complication in the insertion site of tendon to bone by a plantar knop we used a new method of fixation by an absorbable screw inserted dorsally. Methods: we performed this operation on 15 patients in...

Retromalleolar Groove Deepening in Recurrent Peroneal Tendon Dislocation: Technique Tip

Peroneal tendon dislocations are most prevalent in the active and athletic population, so accurate diagnosis and management are essential for optimal return of function. Although many nonoperative and surgical management options have been described, the optimal treatment method continues to be debated. In this technique article, a modified retromalleolar groove-deepening technique is described ...

Repair of Peroneal Paralysis by Muscle Transposition in Sheep

This study was performed for the treatment of peroneal paralysis, occurred as a result of iatrogenic injection and/or medicine, with tendon transposition in sheep. Thirty six sheep from a flock with peroneal paralysis occurred following intramuscular injection of a commercial medicine used as metabolic activator were hospitalized for 15 days and medical treatment was applied. After failure of t...

Treatment of peroneal nerve injuries with simultaneous tendon transfer and nerve exploration

BACKGROUND Common peroneal nerve palsy leading to foot drop is difficult to manage and has historically been treated with extended bracing with expectant waiting for return of nerve function. Peroneal nerve exploration has traditionally been avoided except in cases of known traumatic or iatrogenic injury, with tendon transfers being performed in a delayed fashion after exhausting conservative t...

Entrapment of Common Peroneal Nerve by Surgical Suture following Distal Biceps Femoris Tendon Repair

We describe entrapment of the common peroneal nerve by a suture after surgical repair of the distal biceps femoris tendon. Complete rupture of the distal biceps femoris tendon of a 16-year-old male athlete was surgically repaired. Postoperative common peroneal nerve palsy was evident, but conservative treatment did not cause any neurological improvement. Reexploration revealed that the common p...
